What's in a name?

Well Olivia came in at #4, for top 100 girls names in 2011 that is! While we were pregnant the other 2 girls names we considered were Isabella, which came in at # 3 and Madeline which came in at # 13 (but spelled Madelyn). Our neice Natalie came in at # 27.

When picking out Olivia's name we never thought about a "meaning" or how popular it was. We just liked it.

People always ask how we came up with her name? (Well if you are new to the blog, we decided NOT to find out our baby's gender while pregnant. We felt like there are too few surprises in life. We figured we would plan a neutral nursery and then add the pops of pink or blue when the baby came.) I really had thought the baby was a boy. We had a boy name picked out forever, Joshua Ryan. (which came in at #33 and #14 on the top boys names of 2011) For girls we had literally picked out 3 names the day before we had our emergency delivery. Like I had said, I was convinced the baby was a boy but Jer had thought girl. So when the time came, and they annouced that the baby was a girl, since Jeremy was right he got to pick her first name. He thought she looked like an Olivia, and we both had always loved the name. Her middle name, Adele, came from my maiden name Adelman. I also like the name Olivia because we call her Livy or Liv and since she did survive or LIVE it seems very fitting :)
